Shizumu - a very different take on a notes app
We recently bumped into Shizumu on Reddit, where the developer announced the release of the app. We found it to be quite intriguing since the app works using a method where notes can be linked using pins and trails.
Features
Shizumu's main claim to fame is that you write your thoughts as it happens to build a trail that follows your overarching idea. There are no tags or folders, and all you have to do is write your thoughts and add them to the relevant trail. As of now, everything is stored locally, but the developer has cloud sync on the roadmap. We queried this with them, and it seems like there's a plan to allow users to have their own syncing service that will be independent of Shizumu. It seems like Shizumu isn't planned to be a paid-for service. We will of course keep you updated as developement continues.
Shizumu in action
Currently, Shizumu is available only on Linux with support planned for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. To use Shizumu in its current state, head over to Shizumu.app and choose the appropriate file for your distro. Thankfully, they added Flatpak support recently.
Final thoughts
This was a quick and dirty write-up on Shizumu, but we will write a lot more about this app as development continues. We use Shizumu daily and find it a joy to use. We love the clean and beautiful interface and the simplicity of design. If you're looking for a note-taking app that is packed full of features that can be used for both note-taking and word processing, then Shizumu is not for you.
However, if you're like us and tend to get distracted very quickly and need simplicity and ease of use above all else, then Shizumu may be worth a look.
